Plastic revision hatch: dimensions and features

Pipes and communications do not decorate the interior of the bathroom. You can't get rid of them, you have to hide them. Repair involves hiding pipes, meters and communications in various ways. For this, partitions made of drywall, gypsum boards are used. But pipelines require constant inspection. Inspection hatches are used - plastic or metal, helping to provide unhindered access.

The inspection hatch has a narrow purpose. It is used to access hidden pipes in the bathroom or other areas. Therefore, an extensive selection of hatches is rarely found. The range is limited and is divided into several parameters:

  • Color;
  • Material type;
  • Dimensions;
  • Hidden invisible hatches.
Doors for hiding pipes in the bathroom come with and without a lock

Since the choice is not too extensive, aesthetics come first. Inspection hatches are used no more than once a month. Therefore, they do not pay attention to the super-reliability of the structure or a strong lock. In addition to visual qualities, the dimensions of the hatch are important. They are different, such as a metal or plastic hatch with dimensions of 10x10 centimeters. But when it is necessary to install large doors, then there are dimensions of 800x800 millimeters with double doors.

The standard dimensions of a bathroom door are 20x30 centimeters. This is due to the fact that the tiles have similar parameters.

The color range is extensive, but plastic structures in white or similar shades are more common, and the metal hatch is a standard metallic color.

It is difficult to imagine a repair after which pipes and meters are visible

When a plastic or metal hatch of a certain color is needed for repairs, which is difficult to find in a hardware store, it is painted. Plastic lends itself well to staining, for example, with a spray can.

When it is necessary to paint metal, it is advisable to purchase a clean galvanized type without paintwork. Then the paint will lie better on the metal case.

Plastic or metal: which inspection hatch to choose

Regarding the type of material, there are two types: plastic or metal inspection hatch. Plastic doors are practical and cheap. They are found in any hardware store, in different colors and different sizes. Popular and cheap door options are not equipped with a lock, but with a conventional latch. There are species in which equipment or pipes hidden behind the lock are provided. The dimensions of plastic doors come across different: the smallest with a face of 10 centimeters, and large hatches with a lock for special equipment when they hide ventilation or filtering equipment. The inspection hatch is installed simply: using self-tapping screws or glue. In the case of self-tapping screws, the inspection hatch is screwed to the frame on the prepared hole, or it is glued into the niche.

Metal doors painted white or standard metallic

The metal inspection hatch is made in the same forms and with the same purpose. The difference is that it is more often equipped with a lock. A big plus of this type of doors is their durability and increased reliability. And when it is equipped with a lock, then pulling out or damaging it is much more difficult than plastic. Of the minuses of metal doors, high cost is distinguished. The price for this type of hiding communications differs by almost 2-3 times.

Invisibility hatch: what it is and how it looks

Presenting an invisibility hatch is not as difficult as it seems. The peculiarity of such an inspection door is that it is directly a mechanism for opening and closing. The cover itself is made from the same material as the wall. This allows you to hide all access points to communications, not to spoil the interior with eye-catching doors on the walls.

Hidden mechanism in a tiled wall

This mechanism has several features. First of all, it is used not at access points to meters and actively used valves, but at places where pipes and communications are inspected. The installation process causes some inconvenience. Such a door, according to its intended purpose, should be hidden. This means that when tiling a bathroom, a hatch is first mounted and tiles are glued to it, and then all the tiles are laid directly from this door. Such doors are not equipped with a lock, so access to communications is open.

If you want to install this type of pipe hiding, the price of an invisible mechanism scares away, which is higher than the cost of plastic and metal doors. Therefore, craftsmen create invisible doors with their own hands. The production is simple, it is worth thinking about this option.

You can create this type of hatches yourself in several ways, which will be discussed below.

Do-it-yourself revision door

When expensive tiles lie on the walls, the plastic or metal door will not look very organic. Acquiring a hidden mechanism is costly, especially when it comes to accessing the empty space under the bath. Therefore, it is worth looking at several basic options for making small revision doors.

Hidden magnetic door

Two options for self-manufacturing hidden hatches:

  • On magnets;
  • With the use of furniture fittings.

The first option is simple. It involves sticking a magnet to each corner of the door. Glue on construction or household superglue. The same magnets are placed at the junction of the door with the wall. This is easy to do by the following method: by gluing small magnets on the door and letting the glue dry, the second pair of magnets is placed on top of the first and smeared with glue at the point of contact with the wall.

After inserting the door into place and letting the glue dry, the hatch is pulled out with any thin object, after which small furniture handles in the form of Velcro rings are placed on it. They are invisible and help to pull the doors out of the niche.

The tiles on the doors are selected whole and without cuts. It is recommended to start finishing the wall from the door, and not from the corner.

The door is cut out of OSB, tiled. Another material is also used, but its thickness is taken into account. The thinner it is, the easier it is to adjust the thickness of the door to the level of the wall.

Hatches with a hidden mechanism - a guarantee of an ideal interior in a bathroom or bathroom

The second option involves the use of furniture fittings to open the door. You can buy such accessories in any furniture store. Installation is more complicated than on magnets, but the design will turn out with a full-fledged door that is easy to open and close. Accessories are selected to taste.
