The procedure for connecting the boiler to the water supply

If there is no hot water in the house, you can connect an electric water heater. Almost everyone can do this, just carefully study the specifics of its design, the types of device designs and their connection diagrams.

Types of boilers used

There are several types of electric water heaters:

  1. Flowing. The heater acts as a heating element. The thermal medium in the flow part is heated by a heated metal tube. Devices of this type are not equipped with a water tank, so a constant stream of water is heated to a certain temperature, which explains the high power. Depending on the model, the power varies from 3 to 25 kW. If the water heater is planned to be used not only for heating water for washing dishes, but also for taking baths or showers, a boiler with a capacity of at least 8 kW will be required. Therefore, the power of the heating element affects the heating time of a particular volume of liquid. The device can be non-pressure or pressure. A non-pressure water heater has a small capacity, and the installation is carried out with a faucet or a shower head. The pressure type of the device is connected directly to the water supply network. These are high power devices that can provide hot water to several points with water supply. Such a water heater can also be used with a non-pressure method. They can have a mechanical and automatic control system, the main task of which is to turn on the boiler and then turn it off at a certain period of time. The advantages of a flow-through water heating device include: a large selection of models with various functions; small size and light weight, which simplifies the installation of the device; providing hot water in unlimited quantities without preheating, for this it is enough to open the tap when the boiler is on. The disadvantages are: in the case of weak electrical wiring, the operation of high power devices is virtually impossible; in case of low pressure in the water supply system, the heating element of the water heater may fail, therefore, when installing the boiler, the installation of a pumping station is required; inability to get a large flow of hot water; high costs of electrical energy.
  2. Cumulative. This type of water heater has a steel sealed container and a heating element located inside the tank. The heating tube heats the water to a certain temperature and maintains it throughout the entire time of use. The thermal liquid, coming from the plumbing system into the device, is constantly heated, while the power is used small. The heated thermal environment can be distributed over several points of the water supply network. The indisputable advantages of storage devices are: water is added automatically, which ensures the uninterrupted availability of hot water; rapid heating of the thermal environment up to 70 degrees; relatively low power of the device; automatic switching on and off of the device; economy of electricity consumption; maintaining water temperature for a long time. The disadvantages include: heating water requires a certain amount of time; large dimensions of the device, but the latest models are smaller overall; the need for periodic cleaning of tubular electric heaters from lime deposits; from time to time, the magnesium anode needs to be replaced, which protects the inner tank from the effects of corrosion.

Installation rules

During the installation and operation of the water heater, it is necessary to take into account some points:

  • it is important to choose the right wall for mounting the device, it must withstand a load equal to twice the weight of the device;
  • it is important to determine the solidity of risers and pipelines in the house(sometimes it is advisable to replace the pipes before installing the device);
  • the electrical wiring must withstand the power of the water heater if it is weak, it needs to be replaced;
  • draining water from the water heater should be carried out only after disconnecting it from the network;
  • connection to the water supply system with pressure over 6 atm., without mounting a safety valve is unacceptable;
  • operation of the water heater without protective grounding is prohibited;
  • installation of spare parts in the device, not provided by the manufacturer, is prohibited;
  • cleaning, inspection and replacement of tubular heating elements should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, this contributes to the extension of its service life;
  • when connecting electrical wires, it is important to pay attention to the marking to avoid connecting the phase to the ground loop;
  • during the entire period of use of the device access to it should be free.

Connecting the storage boiler to the water supply

Preparing to connect

Before you start connecting the storage water heater to the water supply network, it is necessary to ensure high-quality fastening.

The mounting process is performed in the following sequence:

  • points are marked on the wall for the place of support in accordance with the dimensions and points of fastening directly on the water heating device, it should be noted that when hanging the boiler on hooks, it is raised to the height of the fastener;
  • holes of the required diameter are drilled for dowels, their number depends on the design of the device;
  • dowels are placed in the holes and fasteners are screwed into them;
  • hanging the device on hooks.

Necessary materials and tools

In the process of installing the boiler, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • water hose (flexible) - 2 pcs.;
  • dowel with a hook - 2 pcs.;
  • safety valve - 1 pc.;
  • tap (diameter depends on the pipe) - 1 pc.;
  • or linen tow;
  • sealing paste;
  • puncher or electric drill;
  • drill;
  • Adjustable wrench;
  • screwdrivers.

Cold water connection and hot water outlet

Consider the stages of this process:

  1. Cold water inlet:
    • Shut off the water supply to the house.
    • Tape or tow is wound on the thread with a thin layer, so that there are no gaps. In this case, the opening of the pipe must be free.
    • A sealant is applied to the tape and a tee tap is screwed onto the cold water supply located on the right side of the instrument.
    • Using a wrench, the tee is placed in a position convenient for installing the rotary element. and connecting the water drain hose.
    • A valve is installed on the transverse outlet of the fitting in the same way with hose adapter.
    • Installation of relief and check safety valves. To do this, wind the tape, apply sealant and screw on the valve. To secure the operation of the device, a protective valve of 6 atmospheres is placed in the side opening of the tee, to which a compression connector is mounted for a pipe that drains water at high pressure. A check valve is connected to the bottom of the tee.
    • Next, a shut-off valve is installed, and a connection is made to the adapter of the water heater using a flexible hose. After that, the cold water supply module is ready.
  2. Hot water outlet:
    • The hot thermal mass outlet device requires the installation of a standard 15 mm diameter fitting, which is placed behind the valve. Due to the fact that the fittings have a right-hand thread, they should be tightened clockwise. In addition, depending on the location of the pipeline in the house, fittings with a diameter of 20 mm can be used.
    • To make all connections, you must use tow with sealing paste or PSUL tape.

After mounting the connecting elements, pipes for hot and cold water can be connected. At the same time, they are inserted into the connector until it stops, having previously flared its cut end. Strongly tighten the nuts on the connector should not be, it can be deformed.

Features of connection to pipelines from different materials

The connection of the water heater in the water supply system is carried out according to the scheme, which involves the installation of a shut-off valve for the cold water supply and hot water outlet, as well as the installation of a safety valve and a drain system. Differences can only be when connecting the unit to a pipeline made of various materials.

Let's dwell on the main nuances:

  1. Leading to the water supply from polypropylene. To perform the work, you will need a special soldering iron and a tool for cutting polypropylene pipes, three taps - Americans and a tee with a diameter of 15 mm, as well as several more tees, compression pipes with a diameter of 20 mm, connecting elements. Regarding installation work, it should be noted that if the pipeline is not hidden in the wall, to connect the water heater, it is necessary to cut the pipes for cold and hot water and, using a soldering iron, install tees in them, from which the auxiliary pipes should be separated to the unit and tied with valves using an end coupling. If it is hidden in the wall, an autopsy will be required, followed by the outlet of the pipes to the outside, and then bricked up again. Due to the fact that it will be almost impossible to solder the pipes, it will be necessary to use split couplings with tees. In this case, an American is perfect, one side of which is soldered to the tee, and the other to the free end of the pipe. After the joints have hardened, the detachable connection is assembled, and the subsequent steps for connecting the boiler are carried out in the same way as in the previous case.
  2. Leading to the water supply from metal-plastic material. In this case, it should be noted that the metal-plastic plumbing is not mounted in a hidden way. Therefore, to connect the boiler, several pipes are cut and tees are mounted. Then pipes are pulled from them to the boiler.
  3. Connection to metal pipes. This type of connection is considered the most difficult, it involves inserting a boiler into a steel water pipe. The easiest way involves connecting a kitchen faucet through adapters, each of which is screwed with a tee, which allows both the faucet and the water heater to be connected to a single pipe without threading and tie-in. When this method is not possible to apply, use a tie-in, the so-called clamp, equipped with a threaded fitting, which is mounted on a pipe with a rubber gasket. Further, using a sleeve and an electric drill, a hole is made in the pipe through the fitting. On this sidebar can be considered complete. All tie-ins are equipped with individual valves, from which pipes of any material are bred to the unit.

Connecting the storage boiler to the mains

There are several ways to connect to the electrical network:

  • into the outlet;
  • wire lead to the switchboard.

When connecting through a socket, the instrument must be grounded, therefore a socket with a grounding contact is required. The socket is placed above the pipes connected to the device.

It is important to know that the outlet is not suitable for high power appliances, it will overheat and spark, which can subsequently lead to a fire in the outlet and damage to the water heater.

Leading the electrical wire from the switchboard directly to the appliance is the most reasonable solution. The function of shutting down the device in this case is performed by a circuit breaker that will protect the water heater from negative phenomena and their consequences in the event of network outages.

The cable can be hidden in the wall or pulled open in a refractory sheath. The distance between the cable and the pipeline must be more than 50 cm.

Before connecting the device to the mains, it is necessary to close the safety cover, which must not be opened when the power supply is on.

It should also be noted that when the tank of the unit is empty, connecting the power supply is strictly prohibited.

Connecting a flow boiler

Connecting a device of this type is carried out in three stages:

  1. Mounting the water heater on the wall. Hanging the device is carried out on brackets, which are fastened with self-tapping screws in holes drilled in the wall. At this stage of work, it is important to prevent distortions or displacements that can lead to failure of tubular electric heaters. The ideal location height is the level of human growth.
  2. Electrical connection. It is not recommended to plug the device into a simple socket due to the heavy load on the supply wire. Therefore, it is necessary to bring the cable to the switchboard, in which an individual machine is installed that can withstand the strength of the electric current, respectively, of the device. This indicator can be found in the documentation attached to it. They remove the protective screen and insert three cables into the clamping block, observing the color marking, and, according to the designations, connect the cores to certain connectors. At the end of this stage, the residual current device is mounted and connected.
  3. Connection to the water supply system. There are several connection methods: temporary and stationary. The first requires a simple hose or tube from the faucet in the shower, through which the water pipe and the inlet of the device are connected. Clamps are used to secure the connection. If a squeegee is mounted on the side of the water pipe at the end of the pipe, it is advisable to carry out the piping with a shower hose, at the ends of which there are threaded couplings. With a stationary connection, a shut-off valve is installed on the water pipe, through which, if necessary, you can stop the water supply. Further, the water heater pipe is equipped with an American. An ordinary plastic pipe is mounted between it and the tap. The nozzles supplied with the device are installed to the outlet pipe.

  1. When buying a water heating device, you should carefully review the passport of the device for the presence of a complete set, as well as the correctness of filling out the warranty card and other documentation. It is important to pay attention to the packaging of the water heater. It must be packed with a factory film, and protected from external damage.
  2. It is recommended to install water heating devices as close as possible to the shower, bathroom faucet and kitchen faucet. A long distance from the flow taps affects the energy consumption.
  3. Due to the fact that water heaters are high power devices, the cable for their connection, experts recommend using a copper three-core cable, with a cross section of 2.5 mm or more.
  4. There is no special permission to install the device. in contrast to the installation of a gas heating boiler or column.
  5. Connecting the water heater to the mains, it is filled with water. This action is performed as follows: cold water is supplied simultaneously with an open hot tap. After all the air comes out and the water comes out, the tap is closed.
  6. The connection diagram of the water heating device provides for the presence of an expansion tank, which is filled with excess heated water. In its absence, the water will go into the drains, and the water consumption will increase. The presence of a tank makes it possible to accumulate unused hot water.
