A simple way to make a couch with your own hands from wood with a diagram and a photo. Making an ottoman with your own hands - step by step instructions Required tools and materials

Doctors are often smart people. Sometimes, however, they climb into our body with completely unfounded claims, but this can be forgiven, given the rest of their achievements. In my experienced opinion, one of the breakthroughs in medicine was the conclusion that people with a sore back are better off resting or sleeping on a hard one. The medical couch is ideal in this regard, if not for the ugly calico of the upholstery. But the couch, made with our own hands, is devoid of such shortcomings, because we decide everything ourselves.

Let's consider how to make such a couch ourselves

The construction of a conventional couch

There are only three main signs of a simple, decent, unrefined couch:

  • Simplicity and reliability of the design.
  • Smooth horizontal bed with minimal cushioning.
  • Adjustable headboard rise.

Based on the above, we will copy the medical couch from available materials choosing the upholstery yourself.

Materials and accessories for the couch

As an alternative to the metal base of a standard couch, we take durable and easy-to-handle wooden components:

  • Europlywood 20 mm thick. A standard sheet of 2100x1200 mm is enough for us.
  • Beech block with a section of 60x60 mm. Sold in lengths of 2000-2100 mm, so one is enough.

For upholstery, we use 20 mm foam rubber and tapestry (or chenille). The tree will have to be painted or stained and by all means varnished, so immediately decide on the color of the structure. Even such a purely practical thing should look dignified.

The most difficult thing is to decide on the lifting mechanism. The option with stepped fixation is perfect, the diagram of which can be seen in the following figure. It is almost impossible to buy it over the Internet - you have to look in hardware stores. These were used on old-style clamshells, so you might be in luck.

Scheme of a lifting mechanism with step fixation

Never use a mechanism for an ottoman or sofa. Even with one spring, it creates such a force that you have to lower the relatively small headboard together - the lever is too small.

A mechanism for an ottoman or sofa is not suitable!

For a two-position (upper or lower position, no middle position), gas microlifts are suitable - shock absorbers with a force of no more than 80, but no less than 40N (ask the seller) and no more than 400 mm in length.

With other fittings, everything is simple:

  • Confirmation materials 5x70 mm.
  • Self-tapping screws 4x16 mm.
  • Self-tapping screws 4x60 mm.
  • Metal corners 30x30 mm.
  • Butterfly loops are W-shaped. Ask the seller (seen in the diagram above).
  • Staples for stapler 12 mm.
  • PVA glue emulsion.

Required tools

Here we figure out how to make a couch with our own hands, but everyone understands that with bare hands you can only make a plasticine model. That's why:

  • Electric jigsaw with saws for wood.
  • Drill - a screwdriver with a set of bits and drills.
  • Stapler.
  • Roulette, pencil.
  • Right angle.
  • Sandpaper or sander.
  • Brushes for paint and varnish.

Product detail

Couch above regular chair or a sofa specifically so that people with back pain do not have to get up from it. Therefore, we cut the bar into pieces of 500 mm each - these will be the legs of the structure.

We cut plywood:

  • 1700x700 - stock.
  • 380x700 - headboard.
  • 2000x170 - 2 pcs. Long drawers.
  • 560х170 - 4 pcs. Short drawers.

Preparing to assemble the couch

Basic preparation consists of careful handling of the details. Everything wooden surfaces(except for those that we will cover) should be carefully sanded, stained (if necessary) and varnished.

A little trick: After the first coat of varnish, sandpaper it again. The raised wooden "hairs" under the varnish harden, and you can easily get rid of them.

Foam rubber should be cut with a margin: we fold it under the bottom of the parts to protect the upholstery material from premature abrasion. The corners are soft and the fabric does not rub against the plywood. If you are new to upholstery, I will give you a couple of tips:

  • First, shoot the tapestry in a "calm state", that is, not stretched, to any long side of the part. Then you start to pull and shoot from the middle of the opposite side to the edges. Repeat the same procedure along the short ends: From the middle to the edges.
  • At the corners from the inside, cut off the "excess" material diagonally by simply placing the resulting fold perpendicular to the plane of the part.

Assembling the couch

In our case, the short drawers are attached between the long ones, so we drill them into the end for confirmation (diameter 5 mm). In long ones, we mark and also drill for confirmations, but in a plane (diameter 8 mm). We put one short sidebar at a distance of 400 mm from the part of the box where the headboard will be.

The following figure shows exactly how you need to attach the legs. To do this, we purchased 4x60 self-tapping screws, for which we drill in tsars with a diameter of 5 mm, and in the legs - 2.5 mm (so that the tree does not crack).

Attaching the legs of the couch

Along the entire perimeter of the box (except for the head compartment), we fasten the corners to secure the main bed. In the version with gas shock absorbers - we put them too, according to the instructions included in the kit.

We fasten the bed to the corners on the box, retreating 50 mm from the foot and on the sides. Butterfly loops are more convenient to first attach to the headboard, and then, in a lowered, horizontal state, "slip" under the bed and fix it completely. We fix the counterpart of the gas lifts - our couch is ready!

We have already considered the question “how to make a couch yourself?”, But I would like to draw your attention to the universal principle used in this design: this is how any furniture can be assembled.

Make the legs shorter and the drawers wider - get a single bed. Attach the appropriate mechanism to the box and it will turn into a wardrobe bed. There is always time to think and do a specific thing that is right for you - if the head with hands is in place and in working order.

Furnish the kitchen with a comfortable and beautiful furniture not easy. At the moment, furniture stores offer a huge assortment of various furniture accessories. However, it is important to know what exactly you want to achieve, for what purposes you are purchasing furniture.   • Loss of appearance;
  • Dust accumulation.

Therefore, when choosing furniture, it is important to pay attention to the materials and the complexity of their care.

Place to rest

The purchase of a small in length and centimeters, narrow sofa or couch will make the room more than just a kitchen. It will become a place where guests can sit comfortably and talk over a cup of tea, a place where you can always lie down and relax. The couch can be foldable, it can contain built-in storage boxes, which will allow you to free up some space in the house. Such a place to relax will be a good addition to your kitchen.

Couch

Couches for the kitchen come in a wide variety of types. First of all, it should be noted their size classification. They are large, medium and small. Therefore, depending on the size of your kitchen, you can choose the right product. Another classification subdivides the couches into straight and angular. Straight couches are more suitable for wider spaces. As for the corner couches, they are more compact and designed for less space. The corner of the product has a convenient shelf suitable for a plant or napkin holder. In addition, these couches are equipped with internal ones, which is also convenient for the kitchen. Straight lines can serve as a sleeping place, as opposed to corner ones.

A broader classification by type of couches divides them into:

  • with / without backrest;
  • on thin / thick legs;
  • couches of a soft type (fully upholstered in fabric) / couches with a metal frame;
  • leather couches;
  • couches with drawers.

For small kitchens, folding couches will be an excellent solution. During the day they will be used as a place for gatherings, and at night they can be transformed into a sleeping place.

A small product will perfectly complement the interior of your kitchen and will delight you with functionality and low cost.

Upholstery materials

When it comes to specific materials, it all depends on your budget. Best to use natural wood(solid pine or beech). But, if funds do not allow, then chipboard will do. The choice of printed material also depends on the amount you are willing to spend. Foam rubber is always a traditional and rather cheap option.

A massage table is a professional furniture for a massage therapist. The comfort of the client and the master himself depends on the quality of this item. Due to its narrow specialization, such a table will not be cheap, so many masters are thinking about how to make a massage table with their own hands.

On the Internet, you can find various schemes for expensive and budget options. In this article, I'll show you how to build your own folding table without using complex tools at home.

Required tools

  • Circular saw with an inclined blade. Best suited for sawing timber. Unlike a stationary machine, it can be used in any room.
  • Hacksaw for metal. Well suited for small cuts.
  • Drills for wood. These drills are specially sharpened to make wood work easier.
  • Screwdriver. Tool for tightening self-tapping screws.
  • Mallet. Carpentry tool for working with wood.
  • Chisel. Tool for roughing grooves.
  • Hacksaw for wood. Suitable for sawing small parts, sawing grooves and sanding edges. A model with small teeth should be chosen.
  • Jigsaw with guiding element. Tool for cutting out parts from solid wood.
  • Construction stapler with staples. Useful for covering the countertop with leather or other material.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Roulette or large ruler.
  • Construction corner.
  • Construction pencil.

Necessary materials

  1. Two sheets of sanded plywood measuring 600 x 900 x 9 millimeters.
  2. Eighteen meters of timber for legs measuring 20 x 50 millimeters.
  3. Two sheets of foam rubber measuring 600 x 900 x 50 millimeters.
  4. Leatherette sheet measuring 1100 x 2100 millimeters. You can use real leather or other material if desired.
  5. Piano hinges measuring 18 x 50 millimeters, you will need fourteen pieces.
  6. Furniture screws 15 millimeters long.
  7. Self-tapping screws 20, 35 and 45 mm long.
  8. PVA glue, half a liter
  9. 600 grit sandpaper.

Assembly

  1. The DIY massage table assembly scheme begins with the layout of the tabletop. On the prepared plywood, I marked out two elements measuring 600 x 900 millimeters. After that, using a jigsaw, I cut out the details.

I sandpaper the ends of the resulting blanks to remove burrs and give smoothness.

In the blank, which will be the front, a cutout for the face is marked. I sawed out an oval hole measuring 180 x 110 millimeters with a jigsaw. Edges also processed sandpaper.

  1. After making the lid, I took up the frame. From a bar measuring 20 x 50 millimeters, I made four segments of 900 millimeters in length and four segments of 550 millimeters in length.

Using self-tapping screws 45 millimeters long, the timber must be connected in such a way as to obtain two frames measuring 900 x 600 millimeters, they are measured at the outer ends.

Do not rush with self-tapping screws, before connecting the bars, I made holes in them with a depth of 3 millimeters. This prevents the wood from cracking. We attach a tabletop element to the finished frames. For fastening, we use self-tapping screws 20 mm long.

  1. Next, I began to trim the top cover. He carefully distributed the glue on the tabletop, and laid a sheet of foam rubber on top. After a while, I repeated the procedure and fixed the second sheet of foam rubber. After the glue dries, I carefully cut out an oval for the face and removed the excess material around the edges.

The next step is to stretch the leatherette. I neatly fixed it to the tabletop, not pressing the foam rubber too much. He folded the edges of the material and brought it behind the frame, stitching it with a stapler to secure it. The step in the line is 0 millimeters. First, I secured the material along the long sides, and only then along the short ones.

The hardest part is the corners. The material must be secured without wrinkling or unevenness. On the short side, I left small cutouts for the buttonholes.

I assembled the legs as shown in the diagram. The most difficult thing when assembling a massage table with your own hands is to achieve stability and an even cut. The table should not wobble. The cut must be done accurately and accurately. In total, I needed two such blanks.

The next supports I assembled according to a similar scheme, two of them were also needed.

We connect the first pair of supports with the second using self-tapping screws. As a result, I got two identical sets of legs. No distortions are allowed, you need to check this right away.

On the inner frames of the countertop I have marked the hinge spots. They are placed right in the corners of the structure. Then he fixed the hinges and tried on the supports for them. To check for folding, you can fix the hinges to the legs with only one self-tapping screw along the central hole in the hinges.

All major connections should be easy to fold and not jam. You should worry about this before all the screws are tightened.

  1. The final step involves making a spacer that will give the portable table more stability.

For this, two bars 53 centimeters long are connected by a piano loop. After that, I connected the ends of the element with the short part of the table supports. In a stationary position, this part will unfold together with the supports.

The project has been completed. Such a table is suitable for both professionals and beginners to get involved in this difficult task.

Labor and cost

Sawing the parts, assembling and covering with leather will take three hours.

  • Leatherette sheet 1100 x 2100 - 400 rubles.
  • Two sheets of polished plywood measuring 600 x 900 x 9 millimeters - 650 rubles.
  • Eighteen meters of timber measuring 20 x 50 millimeters - 300 rubles.
  • Two sheets of foam rubber measuring 600 x 900 x 50 millimeters - 2,400 rubles.
  • Piano hinges measuring 18 x 50 millimeters, fourteen pieces - 700 rubles.
  • PVA glue, 500 grams - 300 rubles.

The total cost is 4750 rubles.

Making a couch with your own hands is not difficult; you do not have to be a professional carpentry. The most important thing is to think carefully about all the details, make a plan, precise drawings (they can be found on the Internet) and select quality materials.

Drawing for making a couch with your own hands

For the frame, the usual wooden blocks, it is better to give preference to natural wood. But you can also use chipboard. To make the product softer, use a mattress or foam rubber. Upholstery fabric will give a beautiful appearance to this type of furniture.

How to make a couch with your own hands?

Please note that all wooden elements must be sanded with sandpaper, painted, and then varnished. Therefore, immediately decide on the desired color of the future product. When the first layer of varnish is dry, you can sandpaper the details again - all the small chips sticking out will harden, and it will be easy to get rid of them.

Wooden couch with a soft mattress and a raised part for the convenience of procedures

If you want to make the product soft, use a universal and cheap material - foam rubber as a filler. Choose a medium hardness, as too soft will sag, and hard will bring discomfort. Cut the foam rubber a few centimeters more - it must be fixed at the bottom of the parts to prevent premature wear of the upholstery.

Foam rubber for softness

In order to sheathe the product it was easier, follow this scheme of actions: first fix it in an unstressed state to one long side of the part, then pull and fasten from the center of the opposite side to the edges. Follow the same sequence with short ends.

The process of fixing the upholstery fabric in the corners

The best option for the headboard lifting mechanism would be the step fixation, popular in the models of old clamshells.

Headboard lifting mechanism - step fixing

Please note that a device for a sofa or ottoman will not work in this case - due to the small size of the lever, you will have to make great efforts to lower the headboard.

You can choose a two-position headboard, the work of which is ensured by gas microlifts with a force of 40N-80N.

Legs from a bar for the future couch

For the legs of the structure, cut the bar into pieces of 50 centimeters; for the rest of the parts, you need to prepare plywood with the following parameters:

  • for a bed 170cm * 70cm;
  • on the headboard 38cm * 70cm;
  • two long drawers 200cm * 17cm;
  • four short drawers 56cm * 17cm.

Short tsars are fixed between the long ones. In long ones, do the same, but in a plane with a diameter of 8 mm. Place one short sidebar in the interval 40 centimeters from the head of the bed.

The legs are attached with 4 * 60 self-tapping screws. In order to avoid the formation of cracks in the wood, drill holes with a diameter of 5 mm in the drawers, and 2.5 mm in the legs.

We fix the legs with self-tapping screws

Along the perimeter of the box, in addition to the headboard, screw the corners to fix the bed. If the couch will be equipped with gas shock absorbers - attach them as well, following the supplied user manual.

Twist the bed to the corners of the box, stepping back 5 centimeters from the foot and on the sides. Set the butterfly hinges at the headboard, then in the lowered, horizontal position, place them under the bed and secure. It remains to fix the counterpart of the gas lifts and the couch is ready with your own hands.

Product decoration

Unusual cable bed-bed

For decoration, you can only use paints and varnishes, various synthetic, microfiber, dermantine or velor - it all depends on your taste and budget. Synthetic upholstery keeps color and shape for a long time, but it tends to become electrified and attracts dust.

The couch will have an interesting appearance if you drill holes in the plywood and pull the filler with nylon thread. The holes will be hidden with beautiful buttons covered with matching fabric.

Using the couch for relaxation, massage and treatments

Video: Couch with bedside table

Any furniture intended for medical manipulation must be durable, functional and safe. It is not so difficult to make a massage table with such characteristics with your own hands. It is enough to have basic skills in working with tools and a correctly drawn drawing.

It is quite possible to make a massage table with your own hands, it is enough to have basic skills and abilities, to have elementary ideas about this device. The product is a specialized piece of furniture that resembles a couch. Used in massage or beauty salons.

A simple version of such a table is equipped with an opening for the face, which allows a person to breathe while lying on his stomach during massage or other manual procedures. In this case, the patient remains in a physiologically correct position.

The surface of the table is flat, a little hard, but padded. This allows the client to relax, and the specialist has access to all parts of the patient's body. At the same time, comfort is ensured.

A massage table with a movable headrest is used in beauty salons. It facilitates the work of a beautician, improves the quality of SPA procedures. Additional adjustable surfaces allow massage in a half-sitting position.

Varieties

By design, such furniture is different. Depending on the purpose of use, the following types of tables are distinguished:

Specifications

Stationary

The product has sufficient weight and dimensions. It is used in beauty salons, massage rooms, medical hospitals. This device has a movable headrest. Steel or hardwood is used for the manufacture, as a result of which the cost is quite high.

Mobile

It is characterized by mobility, light weight - up to 10 kg. The advantage of this option is the ability to use it in different rooms.

Folding

It is lightweight and fits easily into the trunk of a car. Due to its compact dimensions, the furniture is used at home or on the go. Since the table legs are adjustable, it can be placed on an uneven base.

This design is a folding simplified version. It has no additional devices and is characterized by a stable height. Some models have a face hole.

The design often includes armrests, the height of which is adjustable after the patient is placed on the table. To make it comfortable for a person to stand up, all moving parts are lowered. The specified furniture often has several sections.

Manufacturing materials

The frame of the table is made of wood, as well as metal. In the second case, steel or aluminum is used. In some models, these materials are combined. Aluminum reduces the weight of the table, making it durable and reliable. The wood frame is used in the manufacture of stationary models. It fits well in classic interior... Regardless of the material of manufacture of the frame, its height is adjustable.

The table top can consist of several sections or be monolithic. On this part the patient is directly located, so it should be moderately stiff. Artificial leather is used for upholstery. It cleans well and does not stain from oils and creams. Natural leather is rarely used due to its high cost.

Vinyl is resistant to moisture and oils, but it wipes quickly with high intensity of use. Arpatek is considered a premium material. It is hygienic and free of cracks or pores.

Polyurethane or foam rubber is used as a filler. Its optimum thickness is 4 cm. The foam is soft, more comfortable, but with intensive use it deforms and loses its quality. Polyurethane does not wrinkle and lasts a long time.

Product requirements

Massage equipment must meet certain requirements. It is made from durable and environmentally friendly clean materials... In addition, the table must have the following characteristics:

  1. Maximum comfort for both the patient and the masseur.
  2. Carrying capacity. A good product must be able to withstand at least 200 kg.
  3. If the structure turns out to be heavy, then wheels can be screwed to it to facilitate its movement.
  4. Dimensions. The finished device must accommodate an adult patient of any physique.
  5. Strength. The table must be able to withstand frequent intense loads.
  6. Stability. Whatever the base, the furniture should be level on it so that there is no risk of overturning the structure.
  7. The ability of a specialist to gain access to the necessary parts of the body.

The product must be ergonomic. It is good if the table has additional devices that enhance comfort. Do not forget about the quality of the filler, the possibility of adjusting the height of the structure.

Dimensions and Drawings

It is not difficult to make a massage table with your own hands, you just need to decide on the size of the device and its design. Naturally, the parameters can be adjusted. Standard indicators:

  1. Width. It can fluctuate between 50-80 cm. If the tabletop is too narrow, it will be uncomfortable for the patient, who can relax and fall. If the width is too wide, the masseur will tire faster. The optimal indicator is 70-76 cm. If the product turns out to be narrow, then it is additionally equipped with armrests.
  2. Length. The size ranges from 184-200 cm. The optimal indicator is 185 cm. A person should be placed on the table in full growth so that his legs or head do not hang over the edge.
  3. Height. The optimal value in this case is 55-85 cm. Each masseur can adjust this parameter to suit his needs.

Making your own table will be cheaper than purchasing it in a specialized store. But before you start assembling, you need to draw a layout and a drawing. It indicates all parts and their dimensions in millimeters. The fastening elements must be drawn. Ready-made drawings can be found in the public domain and, if necessary, adapt them to your needs.

DIY master class

Before making a massage table, you should prepare everything you need. To build a drawing and measure parts, a pencil, tape measure and square are required. Depending on the material of manufacture, you also need the following tools:

  • saw for wood or hacksaw for metal;
  • drill, screwdriver;
  • knife, chisel, hammer;
  • screwdrivers;
  • fasteners: staples, screws, bolts;
  • mallet.

You will also need faux leather and padding. If the product will be used at home and not very intensively, then it is allowed to take foam rubber. Some models also use PVA wood glue.

For work, plywood with a thickness of 0.9 cm and dimensions of 60 x 90 cm is required - 2 sheets, a wooden bar (2 x 5 cm) - 18 m, artificial leather - 110 x 210 cm.You also need to purchase 14 loops 1.8 x 5 cm The manufacturing process includes the following stages:

  1. Creating a table top. At this stage, an oval hole for the face is prepared, measuring 18 x 12 cm.
  2. Assembling the frame. The dimensions of the frame and table top must be exactly the same. Self-tapping screws 4.5 cm long are used to connect the timber. Holes are pre-drilled for them. The tabletop is also fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws.
  3. Fastening the packing and covering the frame. The foam is fixed with wood glue. In this case, the protruding parts are cut off with a clerical knife. The upholstery is attached with a construction stapler. The step between the staples is 10 cm.
  4. Making legs. To do this, you need 2 x 5 cm bars, 85.5 cm long. They are screwed to the frame and additionally fixed with spacers at the bottom. You will need 2 such designs.

If necessary, additional spacers can be fixed on the legs along the length of the table, which will make it more stable. Last produced finishing constructions: every visible surface should be varnished or painted wooden element... They must be free of burrs.

Made of metal

Metal models are also not considered difficult to self-made... You will need a steel or aluminum square tube or rectangular section... Welding or screws (bolts and nuts) can be used for the connection. You need to twist aluminum. Metal carcass undergoes cleaning, sanding and painting before the table top is attached. The work includes the following stages:

  1. Frame manufacturing. The size of the metal profile depends on the dimensions of the tabletop: it should go 5-10 cm beyond the limits of the supporting structure. The section of the pipe is 2 x 4 cm. The frame requires 4 sections, 2 of which are short and 2 are long. You also need a long cross member, which is a stiffening rib of the structure.
  2. Fixing the legs. They are installed strictly perpendicular to the frame in its corners. If it is necessary to adjust the height, holes are drilled on the legs, and then small sections of a metal profile with the same holes are attached to them. The step between them is 1.5-2 cm.
  3. Tabletop installation. It can be wooden or metal. At this stage, the filler is laid and the upholstery is fixed.

Angles and self-tapping screws are used to fasten the tabletop. The metal top can be attached by welding, such a product will be more durable. All joints are cleaned, covered with paint.

Folding massage furniture

A folding massage table with your own hands is somewhat more difficult to do. The upper part is made of plywood. Requires 2 cuts of material, 60 x 90 cm. In one of the parts, an oval for the face is immediately cut out. A frame is made of bars for each piece of plywood. Parts are fastened with nails or self-tapping screws. Then the plywood is pasted over with foam rubber, the excess parts of which are cut off. Now the tabletops need to be covered with upholstery.

Use a wide tape to make a hole for the face. Both halves must be connected together using piano hinges. The manufacture of supports provides for the following actions:

  1. Cutting beams with a section of 2-5 cm - 12 pieces (2 identical sets).
  2. Joining of workpieces. Self-tapping screws are used here. Long elements are trimmed at 45 degrees. Parts must be fixed "half-wood" with self-tapping screws, cutting off the edges of the supports at an angle of 30 degrees. The resulting fragments are connected with loops and fasteners. It should be borne in mind that when folding, structural parts should not interfere with each other.
  3. Assembling the table. Places for hinges are marked on the back of the frames. Piano hinges (4 pieces) are required to attach the table top and support elements. They also fix the spacers on both crossbars.

Before completing the work, the folding elements must be checked for stability and ease of transformation. Additionally, the product is equipped with a handle and a fastener for easy portability. Even an inexperienced master will make such a massage table if he adheres to the technology for performing the work.
