How to transform a table with your own hands. Table restoration at home. Materials and tools required for the restoration

An old table in your home is more than just a piece of furniture. In a sense, this is a story, a memory of ancestors, a symbol of the long-term stability of the home.

The old table can be restored, giving it a second life, and saving yourself a lot of money to buy a new table.

The ideal balance between careful attention to the history of one's own family and the needs of everyday household comfort is provided by the restoration of the table with your own hands. Indeed, you should not rush to throw away the old table found in the attic - a good renovation can breathe a second life into a dilapidated object, saving its owner's money for buying new furniture.

Perhaps such a renovation will also give new aesthetic sensations at the sight of unusual shapes and silhouettes, will delight you with the pleasant warm texture of solid wood, cleaned of dirt and layers of outdated finishes.

But before proceeding to the description of the course of restoration work, let's see how you can perform them in the best quality.

Materials and tools required for the restoration

For work on restoring and updating the old table with your own hands, it is recommended to stock up on tools and materials from the following list:

Hand tools for restoration.

  • electric drill, wood drills;
  • a set of chisels;
  • face planer;
  • hammer;
  • nail puller;
  • screwdrivers (flat and Phillips);
  • clamps;
  • jigsaw (manual or electric);
  • pliers and round nose pliers;
  • hacksaws (for wood and metal);
  • assembly knife;
  • a set of files;
  • measuring devices (ruler, square, tape measure);
  • felt polish;
  • set of brushes;
  • joiner's glue;
  • acrylic varnish, stain.

Restoration of a wooden table: the order of operations

The restoration begins with the removal of old varnish and paint.

Before proceeding with the implementation of this plan, it is necessary to carefully examine the entire table and its most hidden corners and crevices. This is done in order to correctly assess the general technical condition of the subject and plan the total amount of work.

Almost any cardinal table restoration begins with its disassembly. As a rule, the older the object, the more of its details require serious instrumental intervention. In some cases (if, for example, the tabletop has warped heavily due to very long use), it is simply pointless to restore certain parts - it will turn out to be too expensive and ineffective.

Then it is better either to independently make a product that is completely out of order, or to order a part from specialists on the side. If the damage from time and from improper storage turned out to be not so destructive, then old design should be carefully reinforced. This means, in particular, that the existing not very strong joints must be tightened, and strongly loosened joints must be disassembled, then cleaned and re-twisted or glued.

It has been noticed that in furniture one of the most affected components over time is the paintwork.

The varnish is ripped off the table to the very base.

Therefore, often, when they begin to renovate an old wooden table, you have to deal with peeling off the old paint (which may turn out to be laid in several layers) from the table surfaces.

If there are too thick coatings or large areas of damaged surface, it is recommended to use a drill with a metal brush attachment to remove the paint, or grinder... After the old paint has been completely removed, the next stage of preparation is carried out.

It consists in degreasing the cleaned surface. This can be done by wiping thoroughly wooden parts a soft cloth soaked in special solvents suitable for this coating, alcohol or acetone. At the same time, obvious defects are sanded with emery paper or a grinder.

However, old damage (potholes, scratches, chips, etc.) cannot always be removed by grinding. High-quality restoration presupposes the obligatory putty of the surfaces of the old table. It should not be forgotten that after the putty has completely dried, all surfaces to be treated must be sanded well again.

If possible, it is advisable to process the old wooden parts separately, after carefully separating the tabletop and underframe. The table top is sanded again, after which it is painted with a paint suitable for furniture and covered with 2-3 layers of colorless varnish. This operation is carried out without haste, with keeping each layer of paint and varnish until they are completely dry.

in the presence of faults, these places are glued and pressed tightly against each other with a clamp.

The other part of the table - the underframe - often requires even more attention than the tabletop. After many years of operation, it can have cracks in parts and serious fractures. If the owner of such a rarity nevertheless decides to restore it, then he should first disconnect the legs from the underframe using the appropriate tools.

Fracture points for further connection of the dispersed parts must be glued. Then, using clamps, these parts are pressed tightly against each other. Sometimes, for better tightening of the cracked parts to each other, you can use self-tapping screws, which come in handy in inconvenient places where it is difficult or impossible to install a clamp.

After the glue has dried (after about 12-15 hours), the self-tapping screws are removed from wooden elements table. The tabletop and underframe are connected to each other either with glue or by providing a removable connection, which will be very useful in small apartments.

The restoration of the table ends with varnishing of the wood details. But before that, they must be opened with a stain. To avoid drips, it is better to do this with a piece of soft foam rubber. After the stain has dried, the wooden surfaces of the table are primed with a transparent varnish (primer) and lightly treated with a thin sandpaper.

How can “specialized” tables be restored?

When updating tables, you should always take into account their purpose and where they will be located in the future:

The table for the nursery can be decorated with photographs and drawings.

  1. Children's table. It is recommended to glue clippings from bright glossy magazines or children's pictures to its surface after removing old paint from the countertop and sanding it. Then all this is covered with 4 layers of acrylic varnish.
  2. Restoration dressing table... An original solution would be to remake an old toiletry table for a sink stand. A hole is cut in the middle of the table so that a sink fits into it, but without significant protrusions above the surface of the table. Ceramic tiles can be glued to the remaining space on the countertop.
  3. Kitchen table. You can paint an old piece of furniture with some bright paint. A film is glued to the painted countertop, which, for example, imitates beautiful lace. At the same time, the film can not be glued to the table top, but attached from below with special brackets.
  4. Update writing desk... You can cover the old countertop with some eye-catching wallpaper. To give the furniture freshness and solidity, wallpapers that imitate the texture of wood of any valuable species are well suited. To give the composition a sense of integrity and completeness, the table legs can be varnished in wood tones.
  5. Coffee table. With this option, a bright pattern with geometric elements will be in good harmony. It is better to choose some dull paint for the background, which is recommended to be applied to the countertop with a spray gun. The geometric pattern is applied to the dry painted surface with a brush or special masking tape. Fragments between stripes can be filled with paints of bright colors.

The kitchen table can be decorated using decoupage technique.

If the table legs are detached from the underframe, it is worthwhile to mark in advance exactly where the particular leg was. Install each leg in the place where it was before the repair.

Covering the table with a white primer, one must be prepared for the fact that then almost all defects will become visible on its surfaces.

To provide furniture surfaces with maximum durability, the lacquer coating must have at least 3 layers made with a paint roller, 5 layers with a spray gun and 10 layers with a cotton swab.

Grind wooden countertop follows along the wood fibers. If you do this across the grain, there will be noticeable small risks on the countertop.

Taking on restoration old furniture with your own hands, it is worth considering that this process is not only an opportunity to save your money, but also an excellent chance to reveal your talent as a home design master.

We continue our journey into the world of updated things. In the previous episode, we were told their stories, this time there are 8 tables on the stage. And no less interesting transformations that have occurred with each of them.

They got not only fresh appearance but also new features. And for the "flexibility of character" and readiness for changes, the owners gave them a chance for a second youth. Some have become just comfortable things, while others have even become interior decoration.

Watch the stories 8 tables and tables in "before" and "after" state, and let your own things take on no less interesting and spectacular "faces"!

If you want, take a look at our new collection of ideas, where 23 models are described in detail.

idea number 1: ancient book table-> colorful terrace table

Very old thing, retaining, in spite of everything, the stability and grace of the lower limbs. Her young owners decided that a little shocking outfit would not hurt her. Unlike lovely ladies, old things are sometimes very bright colors.

But when small children come to visit, they are delighted with this dining table, which on ordinary days does not take up extra space at all. These are acrylic paints, a stencil and a preliminary sketch on paper.

idea number 2: instead of boring lessons-> an exciting hobby

Once upon a time there was a girl, and the most boring thing in the world she considered preparing lessons. Therefore, I transferred all my feelings to my school table. And then she grew up and realized how to get rid of not the most pleasant memories.

The body of the old table was stripped of worn paint, putty and painted again in a stylish wenge color. Furniture film with a zebrano pattern was attached to the fronts of the drawers. And the new bright red, fun paw-shaped handles blend in with the shade of the interior of the drawers, also updated. It turned out to be a great place for a home hobby: just look at it, and boredom will blow away.

idea number 3:massive monster -> elegant gentleman

The massive old table has survived more than one generation of intellectuals in this family. One of the great-grandfathers of the current mistress even owned a successful publishing house. His entrepreneurial spirit was inherited.

The young lady got creative and turned the family heirloom into an elegant piece that harmonizes perfectly with her home. And for the sake of completeness, she surrounded it with matching interior details. Laconic bronze handles specially purchased in vintage style - to commemorate the origin of the table.

idea # 4: sad gray donkey-> flirty green crocodile

The gray, faceless two-pillar table had long ceased to please its owners, and they were thinking how to get rid of it. But one day a student niece came to visit, critically examined the "donkey" and a couple of days later brought it to her home, despite the protests of her parents.

Imagine the amazement of the old owners when they saw what happened to the boring subject. Its young mistress has created a flirty corner for study and sewing. Juicy green tone of matte paint - on the table and an old chair from the pantry. Plus - new fluffy leather upholstery on the seat. And for harmony - flat handles for drawers, covered with a printed pink fabric.

By the way, she is thinking about attaching a mirror in the same colors to the wall: it would also turn out to be a dressing table. That's what fantasy is!

idea number 5: the journey of the Baroness from the 18th to the 21st century

Her new mistress bought an elegant old thing at a flea market. The seller assured that it was once owned by Baroness N. Well, well, - decided the buyer, - that means we will rejuvenate the Baroness.

As you know, white refreshes even a very venerable age. It was chosen as the new color for this antique dressing table. The required variety is achieved thanks to the new decoupage worktop and harmoniously selected objects on it.

idea # 6: magazine's haggard friend-> mobile thing for a children's room

Almost every house once had a similar coffee table. And to this day, someone has kept it somewhere in the closet or in the country. Why not give him a chance to serve your children too ?!

Check how firmly the mountings for the legs and table top are held. Add bright colors and a stencil pattern - in general, nothing complicated. This table has already "wore" rollers. If yours does not yet have such mobility, then strengthen them too: a bright mobile little thing will surely please the young owner.

idea number 7:old card table -> cozy place for dining on the balcony

Like all the previous tables, this card table was stripped of the old coating and covered with fresh paint. And inside they attached small-format ceramic tiles. Now it can easily withstand fluctuations in the weather on an open balcony.

We bring in our 5 kopecks for this theme: instead of tiles, you can use an inexpensive mosaic - it will look absolutely luxurious. Or - trimming the colored tiles left over from the renovation: split into small pieces and lay them like a mosaic - this is a budget solution.

Important: ordinary tile adhesive (dry in bags) cannot be used, only ready-made viscous, solvent-based (like "dragon").

idea number 8: fresh colors bring summer closer

The metal table, resistant to weather and wind, has honestly served you in your yard for several years, and now, alas, has lost its appearance? The same situation happened in this story. And recently, folding chairs with a wooden seat and a backrest on metal frame... In anticipation of summer, the owners decided to create such a colorful corner that attracts attention. Turquoise paint for metal and the same for wood (on chairs). Plus - to update the legs of the whole "set" in black.

But the most spectacular decoration is the white pattern on the tabletop, applied with the help of a stencil. If you do not want to suffer with "small art", you can use ready-made vinyl stickers.

It is not uncommon for a favorite piece of furniture to lose its original appearance, and there is simply no money to buy a new one. In such cases, furniture restoration can help. Let's take a closer look at how to restore a table at home, what is important to take into account and what steps should not be missed.

The ways

There are quite a few ways to restore furniture, ranging from light "cosmetic" decor to a major overhaul of the product. It is not so difficult to restore an old table with your own hands if it does not have any serious damage. In this case, it will be enough to sandpaper and paint the old piece of furniture so that it shines in a completely new light.

Repairing glass tables at home can be more time consuming, as well as a very costly process. If there is a breakage of the glass surface, it may be necessary not only to repair it, but also to buy a new one, since not all glass deformation can be eliminated by gluing and grinding.

The greatest scope for creativity opens up when restoring a wooden table. Indeed, it is to pieces of furniture made of solid wood that various painting and patterning techniques are perfectly applied, including the decoupage technique. It is worth noting that painting and various decorative techniques most applicable to small tables. This can be used to finish, for example, a small desk or a compact coffee table... But for the restoration of the folding oak model, additional resources may be needed. Since the table has a large solid surface, it will be quite acceptable to finish its parts with materials such as MDF and chipboard. Reliably fixed and neatly processed, they will give the table not only new life, but will also give a completely different look.

A plastic table can be refurbished with the same paint, but this can only be done if the piece of furniture is not severely cracked. Plastic is a rather capricious material, and when exposed to high temperatures, the glued seam may not withstand, which will lead to new damage.

Computer tables made of chipboard and laminated chipboard are often peeled off, due to which their appearance becomes sloppy and careless. For the repair of such models, special adhesive tapes and films that imitate a wooden surface are suitable.

The kitchen table-book should be remodeled as carefully as possible, using exclusively environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic materials. Since the countertop comes into contact with food quite often, care must be taken to ensure that the materials for finishing its surface are not toxic and harmful to health. The same goes for the children's table.

A polished dining table can be restored by sanding the surface and applying a new layer of decorative lacquer to it. So the surface of the furniture attribute will regain its glossy shine.

Sometimes it may be necessary to increase the height of, for example, a dressing table, in case of breakage of its legs. In this case, special allowances or new legs of the required size are constructed from wood material. To update any model, you can also use classic hand-painted. This technique is also suitable for sliding tables that do not have any critical surface damage.

Materials and tools

For the restoration process you may need various materials and tools.

Let's get acquainted in more detail with their list and purpose:

  • To restore tables with a wooden surface, you will definitely need a sander or coarse sandpaper. With these tools, you can make the surface smooth by removing all the roughness;
  • To give the surface a fresher look and a different color, you will need a completely regular paint... It is quite easy to find out which variety you can paint the table with, since the area of application is almost always described on the packaging of any manufacturer;
  • It is best to apply various patterns and ornaments with acrylic paint, since it is very resistant and will hold on to the surface of furniture for a long time.

To repair any individual table parts, you may need various construction tools:

  • For example, using a hammer, screws and simple nails, you can properly secure the table legs;
  • To fix panels made of plastic and MDF, it will be necessary to acquire a special glue, which is also called liquid nails and is often used for repairs;
  • To work with wooden parts, you must have a small saw or jigsaw with you, with which you can cut the necessary part from a piece of solid wood.

Various small details, which greatly simplify the restoration process, should not be overlooked. So it's best to have a large ruler or tape measure, a bright marker or pencil, building tape, brushes to remove dust and sawdust, protective equipment and a damp cloth.

Upgrade process step by step

To repair a piece of furniture at home as a whole, in the form in which it is, is an almost insoluble task, since many details require an individual approach. For example, it is better to remove the countertop during the finishing of the remaining parts in order to protect it from causing even greater damage.

Self-restoration of even the smallest table can become a very time-consuming process if you approach the matter incorrectly, skipping important details and steps. It is for the timely completion of each stage of the work that it is necessary to draw up an action plan.

Damage inspection

Before proceeding with the restoration, it is necessary to carefully examine the front of the upcoming work. Very often there are products with serious damage, which will not be possible to cope with only through cosmetic finishing. For example, if a leg falls off a table, painting will not fix it.

The first step is to disassemble the table, if the model allows it, and carefully examine the surface of each part for serious damage. If there are none, you can proceed with further actions depending on the planned restoration work.

If the surface of the parts has rather deep cuts, severe chips or serious damage, it will be necessary to take measures to eliminate them. If the damage cannot be simply repaired, you may have to resort to replacing some part of the furniture attribute.

Only after a thorough examination and identification of all " weak points»A piece of furniture, you can draw up a further action plan and proceed directly to the very process of restoration work. Consistency is very important in this matter.

Grinding

In any repair process, after the definition of the "front of work" is followed by the stage of cleaning and smoothing the surface. The restoration of tables is no exception and, regardless of their types, grinding of individual parts is an indispensable part of the entire process.

If you do not have a special device for sanding the surface at hand, you will need to use sandpaper. To remove the remnants of the old surface, you will need a coarse-grained look.

If it is possible to use a tape machine for grinding surfaces, you should opt for it, as it will help speed up the process. But you should know that the machine is only suitable for processing spacious flat surfaces, and small parts still have to be handled.

If the coating is completely removed and you only need to give the surface smoothness, you should use fine-grained paper. In this way, roughness will be smoothed out without damaging the surface. In no case should you sand the surface across the fibers, since they are quite damaged and scratches of varying depth are formed. Processing is carried out exclusively along the location of the fibers. It is also worth using a respirator or a special mask in order to avoid the ingress of dust and small particles of wood into the respiratory tract.

Putty

As mentioned earlier, in the presence of severe damage and deep scratches, it will be necessary to get rid of them. The simplest and most affordable way is putty. In addition, even the largest holes can be repaired with putty, making part replacement unnecessary.

It is necessary to use only a special putty for wood, since the usual composition for others renovation works will not fit and will not hold onto wooden surface.

If the surface of the product has only shallow cracks, you can use a stain, and then apply several coats of protective varnish. In this way, the fibrous structure of the wood elements will be preserved and beautifully designed.

After applying the putty and before applying the final coat, the surface must be carefully primed and sanded again. The primer will help degrease parts of the furniture attribute, and re-sanding will smooth out the remaining irregularities.

Painting

The final and very important stage that requires special attention is the process of painting the surface. It is important not only to choose the right paint, but also to apply it thoroughly without various formations, lumps, irregularities and to protect the freshly painted surface from small particles of wool, dust and hairs.

It is better to apply dark shades in several thin layers. This will help the paint to set better, and the color will be more saturated.

To create the effect of antiquity and scuffs, the painted surface of the table will need to be sanded in certain places.

You should carefully select shades and apply paint very carefully, because in case of dissatisfaction with your work, it will be quite difficult to repaint the table, you will have to do all the laborious work again, starting with the stage of surface grinding.

In order for the gloss to shine beautifully on the surface, the surface should be treated with a layer of varnish, and after it dries, also with a protective layer. Most often, various polishing compounds are used to protect the surface of furniture, as well as wax mixtures, which, when rubbed into the surface of the table, will give it a glossy shine, protect it from dirt and a large accumulation of dust.

The question of how to update an old table with their own hands is asked by the owners of solid furniture, the look of which has lost its presentability. You can do the work yourself, because a table that is in good condition does not require complex repairs, and there are many materials available to update it.

Countertop decoration

There are many methods to update a table. To change its design, it is enough to decorate the countertop. It is the first detail of the table that catches the eye, and the overall impression of the interior of the room largely depends on its appearance.

The easiest way to decorate is to paint it again. A more difficult option is painting the surface. You can imitate it using the decoupage technique. Inexperienced craftsmen can also use a similar method of finishing the countertop.

Ways to transform the table

Before starting the restoration of the table, it is better to study the methods of restoring it and choose the least costly and most simple technology... The methods for renovating a wooden table and furniture made from wood-based materials are not always the same. General rule for all types of countertop decoration, surface preparation for finishing is required. Any coating must reliably contact it.

Self-adhesive tape is the laziest way

Do-it-yourself alteration of the old table can be done using self-adhesive film. It simulates mosaic, stone, wood structure, etc. The foil can be used to change the design of a recently purchased countertop. Application of the material to the prepared surface takes several minutes.

The base under the film should be as smooth as possible. This decoration method is best used when finishing lacquered surfaces and laminated chipboard worktops. It is desirable that they do not have chips, cracks and swellings. To veneer a countertop, you need to do the following:

  1. Stick the film on a clean, degreased, dry surface, gradually freeing it from the protective layer and spreading it over the plane with a soft cloth. It is important to avoid the formation of wrinkles and air bubbles.
  2. Remove small swellings by piercing the film with a thin needle.

The material is easy to cut, because marking lines are applied on its back side. The size of the film coating is made slightly larger than the dimensions of the countertop. In this case, the film can be tucked under it. The ends of the decorated board are often covered with melamine, PVC or ABS edging tape.

The damaged base needs to be repaired before gluing the film. Irregularities should be filled, sanded and primed, but it is not easy to achieve uniformity after such work. Additional paintwork will help align it.

Decoupage: a new look from napkins

An original tabletop will turn out if its design is changed using decoupage technique. Decoupage napkins are used in the restoration of the table. A wide range of similar products is available today.

Before renewing the table, the top and side surfaces of the table top are freed from the old coating. Varnish, paint, drawings, etc. can be removed with a sander. Then the base is cleaned with fine-grained emery paper. When creating the background for the selected pattern, use an acrylic primer and acrylic paints. The coating must be applied in 2-3 layers in order to level the surface as best as possible. After drying, each layer is sanded with sanding. Then they do it like this:

  • the napkin is freed from the protective layer;
  • with the front side it is applied to a plastic wrap or file, leveled and moistened with water from a spray bottle.
  • the drawing is pressed to the base and leveled by moving the roller over the film, avoiding the formation of bubbles and folds;
  • it is carefully removed, and the tabletop with images is covered with decoupage glue or PVA;
  • varnish is applied to the dried surface.

In decorating, the blend is often combined with craquelure. This technique allows you to give the table an antique look. A simple finishing method is as follows:

  1. The prepared countertop is evenly covered with a layer of water-based (acrylic) paint. It is applied with a flat brush.
  2. A layer of PVA glue is also applied and dried.
  3. Apply a paint contrasting with the first layer and dry it with a hairdryer. The hot air will crack the coating.
  4. Decoupage napkins are applied to the surface. The table top is varnished with colorless varnish at least twice. Each next layer is applied after the varnish has dried in the previous one.

Decorating with tiles

Restoring an old table with your own hands in the kitchen can be done ceramic tiles, mosaic or porcelain stoneware. The surface of the tabletop will become waterproof, but a heavier table will need a solid support. Base from Particleboard is better replace or cover with a sheet of OSB or plywood.

A reinforcing mesh is applied to the primed plane. An adhesive is applied to it. After laying the tiles, the seams are rubbed. The decoration is completed by finishing the ends with plastic or wooden strips.

Painting

It's not just artists who paint. It is permissible to apply drawings to the countertop using stencils and a spray gun. You can paint both unpainted wood and a surface covered with paint and varnish material. It is better to use acrylic paints for painting.

Painting in different colors

In a similar way of decoration, you can use paint, fragments of self-adhesive film and decorative tape. They create a multi-colored surface of thin parallel stripes.

When painting, it is recommended to use masking tape. The tape can mark the boundaries of areas of one color or another or protect them from unwanted paint of a different shade. The final leveling of the surface is achieved with a colorless acrylic lacquer.

Do not rush to throw out the old table. He has served you for many years and will serve you more if you give him a little attention.

Materials and tools

To return the old table to its former beauty, we need the following:
  • Sander;
  • paint for wood;
  • impregnation;
  • primer roller;
  • varnish (colored or colorless);
  • brushes for each type of coating.

As well as personal protective equipment:

  • protective glasses;
  • respirator;
  • work gloves.

Restoration

Step 1. First you need to inspect the table for breakages, cracks, scratches. If there are breakdowns, they must be eliminated. We check all the bolts on the legs and the table top, tighten them.
The best option would be to disassemble the table in detail, clean it from dirt and dust, then reassemble it. You can add glue to all attachment points and wait until it dries (at least 15 hours).

Step 2. Next, you need to grind the table with a machine or sand it by hand. This allows you to identify all problem areas that were not visible before.
Take off old paint and varnish is a very laborious and long process. We clean the surface with fine-grained and medium-grained sandpaper.

Note! The wood should be sanded along the grain. Improper processing results in hard-to-remove defects.

Step 3. Any cracks and deep scratches found must be repaired with. Dry the patches completely. Next, we clean and grind the surface again.

Step 4. We degrease the table with acetone and prime its surface. A universal primer is suitable for this. Instead of impregnation, we prime the tabletop 2-3 times, completely drying each layer.

Step 5. Grinding the table surface again.

Step 6. If the countertop has no scratches, chips or cracks, you can treat it with a water-repellent impregnation and cover it with several layers of stain or varnish. This will give a unique fresh wood effect.

Step 7. If the surface condition is unimportant or the subsequent decoration of the table is planned, it is necessary to paint it. Choosing paint for water based... Apply with a large brush (it is better if it is not a painting, but an artistic one). When the paint dries, apply a second coat. Application should be quick, short strokes, thin layers. We dry the table for at least 4 days.

Note! Dark paint should be applied in two to three coats to avoid light gaps.

Countertop decoration

Painting

Painting is one of the most popular techniques for decorating interiors and household items. There are several options for painting furniture: art painting with a thin brush, painting through a stencil (template), painting with stamps.

For a glass countertop, an excellent solution is a bright and airy painting with stained glass paints.

Painting with tulle or any other lace looks very nice. To apply an openwork pattern on the surface of the table, you need to attach the tulle to the table top (it is advisable to fix it with tape on the back side).

We paint the table in the same way as through a regular stencil, using a sponge, roller or spray paint. We select the color of the enamel contrasting with the color of the surface.

Note! The painting is applied to the glass table top from the inside, the front side remains smooth.

Mosaic

First we lay out the frame mosaic elements with tile glue. We try to make the seams as identical as possible. Then, from the center of the table, we begin to lay out the tiles (or pieces of tiles). An interesting solution will be laying tiles in different colors. From above, the tiles are covered with a special grout. To not see the ends of the tiles, you can attach along the edges of the table plastic corners in the color of the grout for the tiles.

In the mosaic technique, you can use not only tiles, but also other materials and a wide variety of objects - shells , pebbles, pieces of glass, eggshells, etc.

Potal

Potal is the thinnest sheets of various metal alloys that are used to imitate any surface in gold, bronze or silver. The gilding technique is often used in furniture decoration along with other decorative techniques.

To begin with, draw a stencil on which the gold leaf will be glued. Then we apply glue on it with a thin brush.

We carefully put the sheets of potted on the glue. With a soft brush, carefully remove unnecessary parts of the sheet.

The thicker the brush with which we apply the glue, the thicker the gold leaf pattern will be.

Note! The particles of the sheets that were left over from decorating the countertop can be collected and used again in the form of a powder.

Painting in different colors

To begin with, the tabletop is completely covered with one color. After drying, you need to stick masking tape, creating a stencil from it for other colors.

With the help of a roller or brush, all other colors are applied one after the other. After that, the masking tape is removed.

On a colored background, you can draw or glue various pictures.

Finally, the table must be covered with two coats of clear varnish. This will add strength to the decor and protect it from external influences. The varnish can be glossy or matte.
